The first stage will be held online on the 20th of September at 12:00 (Moscow time, GMT +3) via participants' accounts on the official website of the International Philosophy Olympiad for Students 2024.
Students who have registered on the Olympiad website and gained access to their personal accounts will be tasked with writing an essay on one of six proposed topics:
- The Legacy of Immanuel Kant in the Russian Federation
- Immanuel Kant and Critical Thinking
- Immanuel Kant and Moral Philosophy
- Immanuel Kant and Philosophical Anthropology
- Immanuel Kant and the Philosophy of Consciousness
- Immanuel Kant and Philosophical Theology
Each topic will offer a choice of three quotes. These quotes will be published in participants’ personal accounts on the 20th of September.
Participants are advised to carefully read the provided quotations and topics. Select one of the topics and, using the chosen quotation, write a commentary essay. During the online stage, participants will have the option to change their essay topic once. The essay must not exceed 10,000 characters (with spaces).
Essay evaluation criteria:
- Understanding of the chosen topic and related quotation
- Relevance to the chosen topic
- Clarity and coherence of argumentation
- Comprehensiveness of the topic
- Functional literacy
- Reflective position
- Originality
Online stage will start at 12:00 (Moscow time, GMT +3). Participants will have 3 hours to complete the essay.
In the case of any technical issues during the online stage, participants are kindly requested to contact ipos@kantiana.ru. An administrator will respond promptly to resolve the issue.
The results of the first stage of the Olympiad will be published on the website no later than 12:00 (Moscow time, GMT +3) on the 1st of October. Fifty winners of the first stage of the Olympiad will be invited to participate in the in-person stage in Kaliningrad, which will take place from the 26th to 28th of November 2024.
