Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University and Moscow State University invite bachelor’s, specialist, and master’s students from all departments to participate in the Second International Philosophy Olympiad for Students. The event is supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia. The first Olympiad, held in 2022, was launched under the initiative of Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. It united more than 1100 participants from 30 Russian regions and ten countries, including Belarus, China, Germany, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Slovakia, Spain, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
The theme of the Olympiad revolves around both modern and timeless philosophical questions.
The Olympiad will be conducted in two stages. The first stage, held online on September 20th, requires participants to submit an essay on one of the proposed topics. The 50 winners will be invited to participate in the final round, which takes place in Kaliningrad at the IKBFU from November 26 to 29.
Participation in the Olympiad is free. Travel and accommodation expenses for finalists will be covered by the organisers. Winners and distinguished participants will be awarded valuable prizes, including laptops, tablets, and smart speakers. Additionally, top performers will receive preferential treatment when applying for master’s and postgraduate programs at the Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University.
In 2022, students from diverse academic fields — ranging from law to medicine — took part in the Olympiad, dispelling the myth that philosophy appeals only to a narrow audience. This dispelled the myth that philosophy is interesting to a very narrow circle of people. Today, philosophy attracts young minds eager to tackle the world’s most profound questions. I invite talented students from Russia and abroad to join the International Philosophy Olympiad in the birthplace of the great philosopher Immanuel Kant, whose 300th anniversary marks this year. I am confident that our Olympiad will foster new scientific ideas and amplify the voice of a new generation, which holds the future in its hands.
